PGF injections are among the latest and most advanced methods used by physicians to heal patients and restore hair. PGF stands for Personal Growth Factor (or Factors) and refers to the liquid part of the blood that contains a substance known as thrombocytes. When injected into the treatment area, these thrombocytes encourage cell regeneration and promote rapid bodily healing. This method is an excellent choice for the treatment of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. Additionally, PGF can be used for improving hair growth on the scalp.
Preparing for PGF Injections
To prepare a PGF injection, blood is first drawn from the patient. This process is akin to a standard blood-draw experience when visiting a primary care physician. After extraction, the thrombocytes are then separated from other blood cells through the use of a centrifuge. Finally, the increased concentration of thrombocytes is combined with the remaining blood and re-injected into the area of the body that is being treated.
PGF Injection Services
Cohen Medical Centers offers several treatments that utilize PGF. These treatments can be performed in-office and require little to no downtime following the procedure. Patients can return home immediately after treatment and go about the rest of their day.
In order to improve hair growth, PGF is injected into hair-bearing areas on the scalp. Including the separation of the thrombocytes, this process takes roughly 30 minutes to perform. During the course of the session, patients may feel pinprick-like sensations similar to getting injections. These may cause some discomfort, therefore a topical numbing cream and a cold air chiller can be used upon request to provide a more comfortable experience.
Pain management through PGF takes approximately 60 minutes. During the procedure PGF is injected into the treatment area following separation. Results of this treatment typically take about 3-8 weeks to be felt. The effect of this treatment is the gradual reduction of pain over the course of six months. Some patients report a dramatic reduction in pain that lasts for years. At Cohen Medical Centers, we provide PGF care for the following medical concerns:
- Acute ligament and muscle injuries
- Knee arthritis
