Digital X-Ray

New digital X-ray machines, such as those available at Cohen Medical Centers, allow for more reliable and effective scans than their traditional counterparts.

X-ray technology is an essential tool in helping doctors accurately detect signs of bone complications and other concerns. X-rays are commonly used to quickly distinguish between four common densities: calcium, water, fat, and air. This ability allows for easy evaluation of joint spaces, subtle changes in bone architecture, and trabecular bone detail. Currently, digital X-ray technology has been developed to give this time-tested tool a contemporary boost. New digital X-ray machines, such as those available at Cohen Medical Centers, allow for more reliable and effective scans than their traditional counterparts.

How Does a Digital X-Ray Work?

X-rays are used to provide accurate imaging of bones and internal organs. When X-ray machines come into contact with the body, they produce an image on media files. These files can be effectively viewed and stored on the computer. In some cases, they can be archived and accessed outside the doctor’s office as well. Like traditional film X-rays, digital X-rays work through the use of radiation, highlighting denser areas of the body that are more susceptible to exposure. Black areas on an X-ray represent areas where rays have passed through soft tissues. White areas show concentrations of denser tissues.

Digital vs Traditional X-Ray

Digital X-ray equipment provides image quality that surpasses traditional film, bringing out tiny fractures and imperfections that might otherwise go unnoticed. Additionally, with these X-ray machines, you no longer have to keep count of how many pictures are taken. Storage space is virtually unlimited due to hard drive capacity and the potential to use cloud technology for storage as well. With film, it is difficult to store and then retrieve images as they degrade over time, but digital images can be saved and easily accessed remotely without fear of image degradation.

Equipment and Diagnosis

At Cohen Medical Centers, we are equipped with top-of-the-line, digital X-ray technology. These systems enable our technicians to control the exposure of each image in real time, and make images darker or lighter on demand. These machines can also enlarge images, make color enhancements, and/or superimpose textures. These powerful features improve our ability to detect disease and assess its current state. All this adds up to faster diagnosis and treatment.
