PRP injections are among the latest and most advanced methods used by physicians to heal patients and restore hair. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma and refers to the components that make up blood. Plasma is the liquid part of the blood that contains a substance known as “platelets.” When injected into the treatment area, these platelets encourage cell regeneration and promote rapid bodily healing. This method is an excellent choice for the treatment of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. Additionally, PRP can be used for improving hair growth on the scalp.

Preparing for PRP Injections

To prepare a PRP injection, blood is first drawn from the patient. This process is akin to a standard blood-draw experience when visiting a primary care physician. After extraction, platelets are then separated from other blood cells through the use of a centrifuge. Finally, the increased concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood and re-injected into the area of the body that is being treated.

PRP Injection Services

Cohen Medical Centers offers several treatments that utilize PRP. These treatments can be performed in-office and require little to no downtime following the procedure. Patients can return home immediately after treatment and go about the rest of their day.

PRP Hair

In order to improve hair growth, PRP is injected into hair bearing areas on the scalp. Including the separation of PRP, this process takes roughly 30 minutes to perform. During the course of the session, patients may feel pinprick-like sensations similar to getting injections. These may cause some discomfort, therefore a topical numbing cream and a cold air chiller can be used upon request to provide a more comfortable experience.

PRP Medical

Pain management through PRP takes approximately 60 minutes. During the procedure PRP is injected into the treatment area following separation. Results of this treatment typically take about 3-8 weeks to be felt. The effects of this treatment is the gradual reduction of pain over the course of six months. Some patients report a dramatic reduction in pain that lasts for years. At Cohen Medical Centers, we provide PRP care for the following medical concerns:

  • Acute ligament and muscle injuries
  • Knee arthritis
