Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

We are equipped with the GE 1.5 Tesla Wide Bore Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanner.

At Cohen Medical Centers, we are equipped with the GE 1.5 Tesla Wide Bore Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanner. This device produces exceptionally high-resolution images with shorter scan times than older models. The scanner’s open design significantly reduces discomfort for claustrophobic patients, allowing for a comfortable scanning experience. The on-site location of our MRI machine enables patients to get their results much faster, leading to more efficient patient care. Our MRI machine can accommodate patients weighing up to 500 lbs.

What Is an MRI Machine?

A Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine is a computer-guided device that combines the use of a magnetic field with radio waves to create detailed photos of organs, soft tissues, bone, and virtually all other internal body structures. MRI scans are non-invasive and enable doctors to properly assess patient status and make a more accurate diagnosis. This test is especially beneficial in the treatment of tumors, heart disease, and cancer. MRI procedures typically take 30-60 minutes. In order to better visualize the blood vessels, an injection of contrast dye may be given in some cases.

MRI Scan Preparation

There is no preparation necessary for an MRI scan with the exception of metal removal. All worn metal such as jewelry, watches, and glasses will need to be taken off prior to getting into the machine. Prior to the scan, patients will be asked to fill out a screening form to ensure safety. Patients with pacemakers and certain other implants are not eligible for MRI scans.

Test Procedure

MRI scans require little to no patient involvement. During a scan, you will be asked to lie down in the machine and stay still for the duration of the procedure. MRI tests are part of collaborative care, allowing your radiologist and referring physician to work together in order to assess your condition. The accessibility of scans via your electronic medical record makes it easy for your clinical team to collaborate on your care on an ongoing basis.
